Moving Season Makes Me Want to Clean

Said not one person ever.

The summer months mean more excuses to have ice cream, longer days, humidity and moving season 😱 😱 😱.

If you want to move with ease, it’s so important to plan ahead. And if you are a renter, one thing most people save until the absolute last minute, is the thorough cleaning. Yes, normal wear and tear is normal if you’ve rented the same space for awhile, but if one desires to have their FULL security deposit returned the move out cleaning is essential. Who desires to spends hours, or worse, days, cleaning an apartment after you’ve spent just as much time packing? Not I. Not I. Not I.

Solution? Months before you’re scheduled to move and long before you’ve considered packing, start cleaning rooms a bit more thoroughly than you normally would during your regularly schedule chore routine. This would also give you an opportunity to discover things you haven’t used in ages and (hopefully) either donate them, recycle them or throw them away. Bonus, if you discover an accidental hole, scratch or dent you didn’t remember doing, you have time to figure out if you want to paint, fill or if it’s worth the cost of repair to ensure you won’t be penalized later. (P.S. Amazon has some great products to touch up paint or go to your local hardware store for a paint color wheel and pay for a small sample for the tiny touch ups—who knows, maybe the samples will even be free).

By the time you begin packing your least essential items, you’ll have a lot less scrubbing to do, perhaps less to pack and ideally feel more at ease about moving.
